Smallholder farmers in Kassala often lose a significant portion of their harvests due to inadequate storage and contamination risks. This project tackled food loss by introducing modern storage and safety techniques.  

Activities

-Storage Solutions Distributed hermetic bags and silos to farmers for grain storage.  

-Training Workshops: Trained farmers on handling techniques to reduce spoilage and contamination.  

– Market Linkages Connected farmers with buyers to ensure they could sell surplus grain at fair prices.  

Beneficiaries  

1,500 farmers trained and supported, with a focus on smallholders.  

Impact

– Reduced grain losses by 30%, ensuring food availability for longer periods.  

– Improved farmers’ income as they sold surplus grain at higher prices.
